We Were Attacked Because We Are Good: McCain Sept. 12, 2001

Arizona Republican Senator John McCain delivered the following statement on the Senate floor:

Mr. President, I have no words to describe or condemn adequately the enormity of yesterday's attacks on the United States or the depravity of those who are responsible for them. All we can really offer now are our prayers and support for the victims and their families, and the assurance to our fellow citizens that America will recover from these atrocities, resume the life of a great nation, strong, resolute and free, and destroy those who seek to destroy us.

We are greater than our enemies. We are greater because the very virtues our enemies revile and seek to destroy make us so. Our enemies, those who unleashed these attacks, and those who support them, are not our enemies alone. They are the enemies of freedom and independence and justice and peace, and they wage ware on the United States because we are and will remain the principal guarantors of freedom for ourselves and for all nations who claim their right to that condition. All people who possess or aspire to freedom were attacked yesterday, and when we answer we do so in their name as well as ours. And answer we will. These were not just crimes, they were acts of war, and have aroused in this great nation a controlled fury and unity of purpose not just to punish but vanquish...vanquish our enemies. Americans know now that we are at war, and will make the sacrifices and show the resolve necessary to prevail. I say to our enemies, we are coming. God may show you mercy. We will not. We must break the back of this international network of terror in all its guises, and deprive its architects, executioners and sponsors of a safe harbor anywhere in this world. We will commit all necessary resources to its accomplishment. Our responses must be diplomatic, economic and military.

Let us go to our allies, all of our allies, to ensure them of our resolve and to enlist them in this war against our shared values and security. The Atlantic Charter claims an attack on one member of NATO is an attack on all NATO members. We will expect our allies in NATO, Asia and elsewhere to respond to this attack on us as we would respond to an attack on their territory. We should make an immediate statement of our resolve that we no longer intend to tolerate sanction given to our enemies by any nation. We should demand that Afghanistan immediately extradite to the Untied States Osama bin Laden. We will know in due course if he is the architect of yesterday's attacks, but we already possess sufficient evidence to have indicted him for orchestrating the attacks on our embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. He has claimed responsibility for the 1992, etc.

"When I read the words of Senator John McCain's speeches or hear him speak, I hope and pray this Great Nation and the World will have a chance someday to become aware of the full depth of this mans great leadership and strength. His desire for world peace and kindness should never be mistaken for weakness by our enemies."

Written in support of our troops and their families, and all Veterans and their families. This author and his supporters will oppose anyone or any organization of any affiliation that does not support our troops and Veterans.

Our first example will be to address those that have seemed to have forgotten one tragic event after the other with the United States just turning the other cheek. The recent remarks and efforts of Senator Ted Kennedy gave comfort and confidence to the world terrorists’ organizations and encouraged tremendous recruitment. Ted Kennedy has had a troubled life to say the least. As a young man his traffic tickets, drunk and disorderly conduct and hostility toward common sense and the law was only shielded by his family name and money. With the exception of Chappaquidick which was too serious even for the Kennedy name to hide. After a drinking party he was the driver of a car which ran off a bridge and drowned a young girl, his passenger. Ted Kennedy got out of the submerged car and ran away leaving this young girl to struggle for her life for about two hours in a small underwater tomb, with time running out quickly. Ted Kennedy ran to save his own ass. There was not too much that the family money and politics could not fix. This one was the family's greatest challenge.

Unlike his brother Jack Kennedy whose determination and steadfastness made him a great president. Ted Kennedy always ran cowardly from facing responsibility and the truth. John Kennedy was great for many reasons he lived with the motto "when the going gets tough the tough gets going". Not Teddy his motto has always "Place the blame elsewhere." He has always cut and run from reason and responsibility and still will. His recent remarks about our president, commander in chief timed and calculated just before President Bush's summit with the United Nations and accusing him of secret meetings at the Texas ranch and financial bribery of other nations to get coalition support in the evasion of Iraq placed every foreign diplomat that cooperated with the United States and joining the coalition against Iraq on notice with the Muslim world, that the Muslim countries would be watching them with furry and discontent if they got caught supporting coalition forces in Iraq. Kennedy's remarks were totally calculated to under mine our Commander in Chief's foreign policy achievements so other democratic candidates (cronies) who were running for president could point fingers and say "see you need me as President, Bush is not effective on foreign policy". Kennedy's remarks came with a high renewed cost of casualties to American and coalition forces. With this renewed support within the United States to the Strategies of the Muslim terrorists’ world came new confidence among the Muslim world. Kennedy's remarks were an effective way to undermine this President and his administration's actions in foreign policy to gain political favor.

At last, world propaganda took a harsh turn in favor of the terrorists’ efforts, now the terrorists strategies are backed by key world known politicians within the United States. Suddenly Kennedy's remarks siding with the French, Germans and Russians on the war gave renewed confidence and escalated world violence. Escalated world violence would take place. In an attempt to push the war efforts in to total chaos and fear, the United Nations, Red Cross, and their own Iraqi people will become renewed targets, women and children, private night clubs frequented by American and other coalition tourists, nothing was now off limits. This renewed violence are designed so as not to let the war be as successful, slow it down and further develop anti American and coalition strategies among the terrorists groups. After all, an election will take place in the United States soon and maybe this part of the war will not be won by the terrorists but by the Americans themselves, as promised by some who seek this most high office in the United States the Americans will once again run out. This new confidence by the world terrorist has and will create more attacks on our troops with consequences being the elevated loss of life of our military in Iraq, Afghan and around the world.

I am just sick of Ted Kennedy and others taking pot shots at our troops and this administration and politicizing the war to seek political favor and prestige. We are not talking about normal criticism here, we are engaged in anti American activities hiding under the name of free speech.

We have all known for some time Ted Kennedy is Bi-Polar and has sick rages and outbursts, someone needs to take him to his room by himself and wash out his mouth with soap. His brothers Jack & Robert Kennedy are turning over in their graves while more of our services men and women are being put to their graves because of people like Ted Kennedy hiding behind "Freedom of Speech". Please, someone like Bill Clinton or Senator Clinton needs to tell him, if he doesn't know what else to say, shut his mouth, give him another bottle of whisky and send him home with some of Rush Limbaugh's prescription pills. Please.

Then there are those like Dick Gephardt and his calling the President a miserable failure in Iraq and talking about pulling our troops back out. Other presidential candidates think 9-11 was a fluke and won't happen again. Under the strong force full leadership of President Bill Clinton there was a recognized need for us to be in Iraq in 1998 and knew the Saddam Hussein regime needed to change if the world was to find peace. Then too there were loud mouths like Rush Limbaugh, he was always so full of hate, he hated President Clinton, Hillary, Chelsea, Blacks and women in general, most of whom were smarter than he was, "and there were many". I will never forget one time an intelligent woman put Rush down on radio and this vulgar mouth, the coward (Rush) hung up on her and said she must have had an affair with her German Shepard. These kinds of people would have rather see continued suffering and hostility than give someone credit. Yes I know this is why we are dying for fee speech. These coward politicians will run and hid behind the words "Freedom of Speech", that's why the real heroes risk and give their lives every day in the true name of freedom. Not these self promoting coward Politicians who just gave their self a large raise while some of our troops come home from the war and find their families living in poverty and disbelief, because of the unexpected disruption and being called off to war.

Yes if I were not so damn old and lost most of my right leg I would be there again. We will and must fight this war now so our children and grandchildren may not have to. The more we wait the more life will be taken. Just let them get a dirty bomb in some city like New York or Chicago and you will see thousands turn to millions of casualties.

This tough old Democrat and retired labor leader says listen to Senator Clinton and Joe Lieberman and yes, George Bush. We need this tough President and the Patriot Act right now. Later if and when things change a little we can bring some changes in our military, but not in the middle of this war.

In years past, had we acted and backed our then President Clinton, 9-11 would have never occurred, so what's the answer? My Daddy always said the reason the pony express was so successful was when a rider rode so long and hard and his horse died the rider didn't spend a lot of time looking down the dead horses throat to see what killed it, he simply got on a fresh horse and rode. Our Politicians have got to stop looking down those tunnels and sands around Iraq for WOMD and let those who are qualified to do that because while they are bent over looking down they may get their ass shot off.

So for the Rush Limbas, Dick Gephardt's, Ted Kennedy's, Doctor Deans and the rest, I will give Birth to this new web site for union member (Veterans) against terrorism. For those who support the terrorists in any way and do not support our troops we will expose you and attempt to defeat you at the poles.

Our first action will be to give away awards. For Politicians performance that we deem supportive of adding, supporting, condoning etc. any anti-American activity or dialog that lends credence to any recognized anti American, anti democracy, or anti freedom groups.

The award will not be fashioned after the Emmy, Grammy or Tony awards and will have nominees. They will be named after Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein and his sons Uday & Qusay.

The first award will go to Ted Kennedy. He will receive the Osama bin Laden award for his highest achievements of prolonging the ware in Iraq. As his remarks against this U.S. administration and placing the world leaders on notice who may side with the Bush administration because as he said "Were going to be bribed into siding with the United States, this statement placed a suspicious eye upon all nations that might support the coalition in Iraq by other watchful Muslims." These statements stole another opportunity for unity among the United Nations.

The Saddam Hussein award will go to Tom Daschele who has continued to bad mouth the efforts of his own senate and congress which has supported the Iraq war efforts. His continued remarks, like calling the president and the war efforts a miserable failure has been contrary to his own congressional support.

To Rush Limbaugh, he gets nothing but the "Life's Miserable Failure" award as a 3 time drug rehab looser. Awarded on behalf of all minorities & women, especially two, my wife and her dear friend the late Virginia Clinton Kelly, the Presidents Mother. As a mother trying to raise 2 boys under very difficult times she was a great person and my life was made richer by knowing her. The things she was accused of from Rush Limbaugh were difficult for me to digest. Virginia always took the high road and would say "Just consider the source". The same is true with President Bush as he did the last month in his answer to Ted Kennedy's terrible remarks against him that shamed this country and the grave of his brothers, the late John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy.

There is no room in this country for progress for humanity with the hate by some republicans and some democrats toward each other with these personal attacks.
